Goodbye 2007, Welcome 2008!

How am I going to celebrate this year's New Year's Eve? Go to salsa party with theme "Hawaiian Tropicals" and dance all night long in my lovely pink floral summer dress which I bought recently and my new salsa shoes!

Nah. Fat chance.

What I'll be doing exactly this New Year's Eve is WORK. Just like on my birthday this year, I had to work too (covering that damn angkasawan thingy). Yeah you heard me. I'M WORKING! I'll be covering the NYE celebration in KL Tower. Journalists have no life. Sigh. What I look forward though is watching the beautiful fireworks from the height of 228 meters on the top of KL Tower. Well not all hope is gone. I guess. Except that I'll be all alone on the top the tower reporting how happy others are celebrating and ushering in the new year with their loved ones. Ahh how pathetic!!! If I get lucky, I'll just grab any nearest hot guy there and give him a new year's kiss. Haha.

*smooch smooch*

Oh well, some of the things I hope to achieve in the coming year 2008:

1. I want to read news. On air. No, I don't want to anchor. I JUST WANT TO READ NEWS.

2. Loose 5 kg of weight. Duh.

3. Make more money and get famous.

4. Travel overseas. Anywhere across the borders of Malaysia. I've got my new passport and it's still a virgin.

5. Travel around other states. Melaka, Sarawak, Sabah, Penang, Redang (woo hoo!).

6. Find a boyfriend. Haha.

Happy New Year 2008!!!

May this coming year brings you good health, wealth, beauty, prosperity, loved ones, good friends, and many more new years to come!

Cheers to 2008!

The year it was (Part 2)

Come 1st June 2007 (yes, exactly mid of 2007), I experienced a major transition in my life. From a student, I stepped into the-great-big-world-out-there: the working world. The transition which I feared I would not adapt comfortably (well I've heard of so many stories of working people), came surprisingly easy to me. Not to mention the HUGE turnabout, more like 180 degrees turn from science field (my major was chemistry) to media and communications (my current job as a broadcast journalist).

Never has it cross my mind I would end up being a journalist because I hate to write. I however love to talk (deejay), which is why I applied to Radio24, with hopes of being an on-air talent (newsreader, anchor, etc). However God had other plans for me, a training ground perhaps, to teach me and mature me. So instead of being a Radio News Anchor, I'm a BJ (no, not DJ mind you, it's BJ: Broadcast Journalist). Not that I'm complaining. I do like my job. Very much indeed. My boss and colleagues are also very nice. Although I'm the only Chinese reporter there, we get along quite well I would say. As long as they are not racist towards me, then I'm fine. But so far it's been good. My boss, Pak Openg is the nicest boss ever! He's very fatherly and also very humble. The newly-elected-director, Mr.Raffie is well... like "The Godfather". But I ain't afraid. Several times I debated with him, but we're cool. He calls me his favourite BJ. Yeah right.

Being a journalist is truly an enriching experience. I'm happy with what I can do with my job. I get to meet people of probably ALL walks of life, from high end datuks, datins and ministers to under privelleged people such as disables and orphans. Hearing what they have to say and listening to their stories has always been a joy to me. Besides that we also get vip treatment (sometimes) during functions. Basically they feed and treat you good so that you'll put a good word for them.

Being a jounalist is also a very humbling experience for me. There's just so many thing that I don't know. And probably ignorant and not bothered to know before this. Therefore the best part of it is knowing a little bit of everything. Otherwise if I were to stay on as a chemist, chemistry is all I will face everyday and know for the rest of my life! Sad isn't it? Now I'm being served with appetiser, main courses and desserts of what the world out there has to offer! Yummy!

However what sadden me recently is my fellow journalist friends who have recently left the company for their own reasons. That's because we've started this journey together and there has been so many memories of us together. Memories of being a journalist. Anyways I won't forget you guys and wish you the best in your future undertakings!

The year it was (Part 1)

2007 has been an eventful year for me, I must say. Mainly due to the major transition in my life from being a ding-dong student to a working adult. If I would give a name to life's journey through year 2007, it would be : TRANSFORMERS! (a bunch of useless scrap metals to make up a monsterous destructing machine. Haha, just kidding, but somewhere near that line, you get what I mean).

There are few chapters of my life that I would like to name them and hopefully treasure them as I pen them down to put a closure to year 2007.

2007 : The year of FYP

Earlier this year (which means I would still be in campus, my life revolved around lectures, laboratories, coursemates, lecturers, and friends. Esspecially in my last semester, FYP (Final Year Project) was the main highlight. There were a few hiccups during the whole FYP-ing, neverthelest challenging and OVER. What a relief! However it was a good experience, not to mention my poster won the most favourite amongst student and oh yeah I got an A for FYP. If I could still rememeber what it was: Preparation of palm-based nanodelivery system for cosmetics (Arbutin). Basically producing whittening creams and testing them! It was a fun experience: my supervisor was super nice, my seniors were amazingly helpful and my labmates were fun! Thanks guys!

Me and my winning poster =)

A few things I would not forget about my campus life would be all the amazing friends I met, shared, laughed and cried with, which made my whole 3 years of campus life a colourful and enriching one. I thank God for all the amazing individuals He sent as angels to care and love me.

My CG mates. We were like sisters. Some of the MOST unforgettable memories come from this bunch of people!

My beloved coursemates who stood by me through thick and thin. When times of stress over-loading or assignments over-mounting, they are always there to give a helping hand.

My super cool labmates and seniors. Making FYP much more fun and enjoyable!

Debating/makan-ing/hangouts/reading Economist/5 minute of daily lame BGR session/dictatorship/cat-fights/sleepovers/camwhoring - nobody does it better than this bunch of highly intelligent, nerdy yet FUN people! Long live DOSE!!!

And last but not least a loving family I found in IKUPM. The memories goes back, way back... No words can describe, nobody else could replace. Thank you God for blessing me with such amazing people!

And that was the end of Part 1 "The year it was: 2007"...

Merry Christmas!

Carlos Mexican Canteena

La comida es muy deliciousa y muy grande!
Mi amiga y yo nos divertimos =)
Comí los tacos y Hawa comió enchiladas.

Oh yeah, we had good Mexican FUN in Carlos Mexican Canteena (not a canteen mind you-it's a Mexican Restaurant in Pavillion). The food is good, nice ambiance (feels like being in a tavern or a cowboy salon), pleasant service and great song. I was practically munching my food and bouncing my head to the Mexican rhythm! Seriously.

In Mexico, do what the Mexicans do. Haha. Eat tacos! TACOS, tacos, tacos (try saying it very quickly). However please refrain from tacos if you are out on a hot date as you will end up eating em' like a slob. Tacos should come with a tagline: Just hands. No cutlery needed. This is the aftermath of tacos tacos tacos tacos tacos....

The drinks ain't bad. I opted for the non-alchoholic mocktail, Shirley Temple. Hawa had Bloody Mary which me thinks tasted like bloody hell. Hahahaha.. Anyways Cheers!

How to drink a Tequila shot

STEPS:

1. Slice a regularly sized lemon or lime into eight small pieces.

2. Fill a shot glass with tequila.

3. Briefly lick the skin between your thumb and forefinger, then sprinkle 1 small pinch of salt (kosher salt melts quickly) onto the area. The lick makes it stick.

4. Using the same hand that contains the salt, you must hold one slice of the lemon (or lime) with your thumb and index finger.

5. Quickly lick the salt, down the tequila, and bite the lemon (or lime). Swish it around in your mouth for a couple of seconds and then swallow.

6. Enjoy!
*P/S: Remember, Lick-it, Slam-it, Suck-it! (Salt first, tequila second, lemon/lime last).
