Yesterday was my first salsa lesson at the Havana Estudio. Apart from being late to class due to traffic jam, the lesson went well. We learnt 3 new steps: the mambo, cucaracha and the "right turn" (that was kind of tricky). Boy I had fun. Dancing has always been my passion, just that I lack exposure and the chance to dance often. I had attended dance class before this, just for 1 month. For fun. But that was sooooo ordinary and boring. This is different, this is salsa babe! I'm determined to learn this art of dance and unleash the "salsa-ness" in me. Muahaha... Just one thing that dissapoints me, although it's just one thing, maybe a small thing, but can be quite depressing. NO CUTE GUYS =( Sad sad. So sad. Where are all the guys? The class that we observe before this had at least some or a few cute guys. At least they had MORE guys than in our class. My class only had a few guys, and they are not at all cute! WHYYYYY???????? Por que??? It's not fair! Having cute guys in class esspecially salsa would definitely make a lot of difference wouldn't it?? Sigh. Tall, dark and handsome.. Where art thou?? Sigh. Doesn't matter lah.. Hopefully can meet some hot guys there during their monthly salsa party. Wehehe... Anyway, the class was fun. I simply love the floor to ceilling mirror! Can't stop looking at them and checking myself out while dancing. Oh vanity!
Oh, oh, I just remembered about a movie I watched quite some time ago. It's my one of my fave movie. And it's about salsa! It's called Dirty Dancing: Havana's Night. 2 thumbs up! Diego Luna is soooo cute!
Let me spare you the imagination and so you can just read the synopsis:
Havana: November, 1958. 18-year-old Katey Miller (Romola Garai) brings an innate curiosity and a smattering of Spanish to her new life in Cuba’s lush capital, where her father has taken an executive position at Ford. Bookish and awkward, Katey is expected to join the smart set of American teenagers who are the Millers’ neighbors at the exclusive Oceana Hotel. But Katey finds herself drawn instead to the proud, purposeful Javier (Diego Luna-cutie pie!), a waiter who also happens to be a brilliant dancer. Determined to learn the slinky, spectacular moves that Javier seems to know in his bones, Katey persuades him to partner with her in a prestigious national dance competition at Havana’s glittering nightclub/casino, The Palace. Soon, the straight-A student is deceiving her parents, stealing away both day and night to discover a different part of Cuba with Javier. They meet at the steamy nightclub La Rosa Negra, where only the locals go and where the dancing is hotter than the temperature outside. Some days, they practice on the sand of an out-of-the-way beach, aligning their bodies in a sensual harmony that mirrors the growing passion between them. As the night of the contest finally arrives, Katey and Javier are ready to take their place as a couple on the dance floor – unaware that the country club, and the streets of Havana itself, are about to erupt in revolutionary violence.
Phew! That's a mouth-full.
123 567. Just keep dancing. Let's mambo!
